The Western Fall Tour - part II

So it's the end of December and I realize I haven't posted anything about the rest of my trip in October. Overall it was a good trip - I went from LA through Arizona, up to Colorado, and then headed to Texas and Austin, and finally turned west towards home.
I played several shows - Austin at Maria's Taco Express and in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the High Desert Brewing Co. - which both went well. I also had some incredible food - in Amarillo I stopped at the Big Texan for a big ol' steak. In Austin I went to Franklin BBQ, which I had heard about for a while and I was glad that I was finally able to go - and it was amazing - and worth the hour and a half wait. The brisket was a taste like no other I've had - and hopefully I can go back the next time I'm in Austin.
It had been a while since I had done a road trip like that one. I was traveling for 2 weeks and covered many miles in my car. None of it seemed that bad - even driving from Austin to the west - which is no easy drive - it takes about 9 hours just to get out of Texas but the time and miles flew by. My car did well and after a stop in Tucson and Cave Creek in Arizona, I got back on the road and headed home. It felt good to get back into my own bed and get a good night of sleep - which doesn't happen often when I'm on the road. I made it back to LA just in time for Halloween

The next tour is in March and on this trip I'll be joined by my friend and fellow singer/songwriter Mikaela Dewar from New Zealand. We'll be playing shows in Long Beach, Jerome, Cave Creek, Flagstaff, Santa Fe, Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins on the Live@Lunch radio show, Taos - and then later I'll head east to St. Louis, Nashville, Knoxville, and Newport, KY.

The new CD, HOME, is now available through CD Baby and iTunes:

Western Fall Tour

Hello from the road - specifically Boulder, Colorado where I'm playing tonight at The Laughing Goat which is close to the pedestrian mall - right on Pearl St. I haven't stopped here in this town for quite a while. The last time was when I was touring with my friend and fellow singer/songwriter Eddie Elliott back in 2005. I did drive through this town last year during that crazy marathon drive from Dallas to Estes Park - but we didn't stop during that 16 hour drive where we made it just it time for the gig.
So far it's been a good trip - it started on October 16th and I left Southern California and headed to Flagstaff where I stopped for the night. Flagstaff is such a great town - it's still pretty much unspoiled despite some major chains coming into town. It's a great beer town - the last time I was there in September I went to several of them and was impressed. This time I stopped at a newish beer bar called Hops On Birch which had a good selection on tap - lots of local Arizona stuff and things from Colorado and California - I had a great pint of Mole' Stout from Ska Brewing out of Durango - reminded me of the Cocoa Mole' from New Belgium Brewing from Fort Collins (more about that later) - chocolatey with a peppery bite to it.
In the morning I got up and started the drive to Colorado - I was headed to Grand Junction up through Utah. It was a beautiful drive - such a scenic country. The road takes you through the Navajo Reservation and through Monument Valley which is so amazing to see in person. I stopped off and took a bunch of photos - I gazed from the deck in awe.
I made my way up the two lane road into Utah which is equally beautiful. The sun was going down and gave everything that quiet evening hue - the rocks shone red in the sun. I stopped in Moab for dinner at the Moab Brewery which was hopping and then carried on into Colorado and Grand Junction.
The Colorado skies were incredibly clear and I started my drive across the state through the mountains. Another day with beautiful scenery all around. I crossed the Vail Pass which is just over 10,000 feet up - a little bit of snow was on the ground - it was amazing to be that high up. I cruised on beyond the Continental Divide and down into Denver - with clear skies following me the whole way to my cousin's house close to downtown to the east.
That night my cousin Chris and I rehearsed for the radio show we were going to do the next day in Fort Collins on the Live @ Lunch show. I had some new songs from my new album that I had wanted to play so we went through it all and felt good about it.
The next morning we drove up I-25 to the station and set up in the studio - but everybody else was late - the mixing engineer and the interviewer - luckily in the short minutes before noon everyone made it and set the levels and we got rolling. This was the fourth time that I've played the show and while I thought we played well the sound wasn't the best. The engineer turned up the bass too much and it overpowered the sound. But still I was happy with it overall.
Right down the street from the station is the New Belgium Brewery which is such a cool place - and they do a great job and put out some amazing brews. So Chris and I enjoyed some tasty beers and then made our way back home.
KJ's was next on our gig list - for that Saturday afternoon. It's a little coffeehouse right around the corner from Chris' house. We play it whenever I come through town and it has a nice relaxed vibe to it. This time there was a chili cook off and so we got play during that - and it was fun. As always there were lots of kids running around - in and out of the front door right next to where we were playing. We had a good time playing and I look forward to coming back there again.
Today, after resting for a lot of the day, I headed out and stopped by the Great Divide Brewing Co. in downtown Denver. It was pretty damn cool. I got myself a Belgian style Yeti Stout and looked around. A girl announced that she was going to be giving a tour of the brewery and it was open to whomever wanted to go - so I joined the group and took the tour. It was pretty special to see the operations of the place and how they're growing and seems to continue to grow. The girl giving the tour was very knowledgable (she is a home brewer with a friend of hers) and I learned quite a bit.
So tonight I'm just about ready to play - the band before me - The Cousins Project - are just finishing up. So I better get ready
Yours truly,
Jeremiah

coming soon...

Hey there -
It's been a while - too long - since I've written anything here but hopefully soon I'll get the time to sit down down and write about the past couple months. There's been some traveling around the Southwest, some playing, eating some good food, and drinking some good brews
Next month in October I'll be heading out for a two week trip from LA to Denver, to Austin, and back through New Mexico - with a stop in Arizona - still TBA. I'm looking forward to driving on those roads again - roads that I know pretty well - the 40, the 25, the 10 - Southwest highways. Can't wait to get some Texas BBQ too.
On October 19th I'll be playing the Live@Lunch show on the KRFC station out of Fort Collins, Colorado

that's 12pm Mountain time
My cousin Chris will be joining me on bass and we'll be playing some new songs from a forthcoming album. We'll also be playing a couple shows in the Denver area over that weekend too.
I'll be posting more before then
yours truly, Jeremiah
